July 2 & 3, 2011
A longtime musical friend who shared a gig with Dom five years ago, Erik Mitchell, offered these two performances to Dom, who gladly filled in or the weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday of the long Independence Day Weekend, Dom played and sang on the outdoor patio during the late morning and early afternoon. Tucked into the Brandywine Park, the tiny zoo is filled with tall trees shading the animal exhibits and most of the walking areas and, especially, the patio. The weather on both days turned out to be surprisingly pleasant for early July, and the music carried well in the outdoor setting.
Accompanied for the first time ever -- seriously, not even a rehearsal preceded Saturday's show -- by percussionist extraordinaire Robért Desjardin, Dom presented his music in a different form. And despite the spontaneity of the song arrangements, it worked well (even the nearby zoo animals seemed to enjoy it)!
One Dom original made its show debut: "Here and Now with You," which has been re-written several times over the years before being deemed "ready" in present form for the live audience.
Thanks again to Erik and Robért, and to the folks at the Bradywine Zoo for their hospitality during an unusual and fun two days!
